The Pudgy Penguins White Celebrity Box, as described on the Walmart website, includes a 12-inch plush toy, an action figure, a smaller clip-on plush, an igloo toy, and a certificate that allows buyers to claim a free NFT minted on zkSync Era for the Pudgy World gaming platform.
Cyber Monday Deal
Walmart is offering the “influencer box bundle” for Cyber Monday only, at a discounted price of $25. It’s listed as half off the regular price, possibly reflecting the collective value of the included items. For example, the 12-inch plush toys typically sell for $20 to $25 apiece on their own.
The collaboration with Walmart started in September, when Pudgy Penguins unveiled its plush line, which was subsequently stocked in over 2000 stores across the United States. Walmart U.S. VP Brittany Smith expressed her excitement about the project, stating that it effectively bridges the gap between physical and digital play for kids in an engaging manner.
From Ethereum Project to Mainstream Success
Pudgy Penguins originated as an Ethereum profile picture (PFP) project in 2021, riding the wave of the NFT craze. After a tumultuous period in early 2022, it was acquired by serial entrepreneur Luca Netz for $2.5 million. Since then, the project has seen substantial growth, amassing over a million Instagram followers and securing $9 million in funding this year.
Notably, Pudgy Penguins recently achieved an all-time high starting price of over $13,000 worth of ETH, marking a sevenfold increase in value since Netz took over in April 2022. This makes Pudgy Penguins one of the very few NFT projects that have significantly grown in USD value following the collapse of the NFT market in May 2022.
